Woodwork teacher forced out by asthma
Occupational asthma caused by exposure to wood dust has forced a teacher to change jobs. The HSE, who prosecuted the employer, reported that no CoSHH risk assessment was in place, and that simple controls, such as using an industrial vacuum cleaner with the correct filter, instead of dry sweeping, would have reduced the risk. (From the SHP magazine, January 2009).
